4D 6.5.8 Update Installation Guide

Introduction
These instructions give you a general overview of installing an update to 4th dimension. Please READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS before attempting the update. Be sure you understand the instructions and set aside uninterrupted time to update your system.

Backup
It is imperative that you back up both your Winx™ Pro data and your Winx™ Pro application prior to installation. The Winx™ Pro application will be replaced during installation.

The quickest method of backup is to drag the entire Winx™ Pro folder from your hard drive to a removable drive such as a Zip drive.

Note: Babcock, Ltd. is not responsible for any lost or damaged data. Starting up Winx™ Pro with mixed versions of 4th dimension can damage your database. Be certain that you have the Winx™ Pro 1.2.2 upgrade CD available as a backup installer of 4D products.

About the disk
The "Winx™ Pro 2.0" CD contains the following items:
  • 4D client & server 6.5.8
  • Winx™ Pro installer

  • Process Summary
    Note: These steps will be completed using the detailed document that follows. Single users can omit steps 3 and 4.

    1. Backup ­ Winx™ Pro, 4D client, 4D server
    2. Run 4D tools on data file.
    3. Install 4D Server 6.5.8 on the server machine.
    4. Install 4D Client 6.5.8 on the client (workstation) machines.
    5. Install Winx™ Pro on the server machine.
    6. Perform the Winx™ Pro update.

    4D Tools
    During this upgrade process, there is an excellent opportunity to verify your Winx™ Pro data. It is recommended that 4D tools be used to verify your data.

  • Quit Winx™ Pro
  • Double-click on the Macintosh Hard Drive
  • Double-click on the "Winx™ Pro" folder.
  • Double-click on the "Utilities" folder.
  • Double-click on 4D tools.
  • From the "Select Structure file to open" window, navigate to and select the "Winx™ Pro" application.
  • Select "Open."
  • Enter "admin" and the administrative password.
  • Select the "Connection" button.
  • From the "Open a data file" window, navigate to and select "Winx™ Pro.data."
  • Select "Open."
  • From the "Tools viewer" window, select "Check data"
  • Select "Check only and create a log."
  • Select "OK."
  • This will run for some time between 10 minutes and 1 hour depending on your data file. At the conclusion, a message will display in the "Analysis" section of the "Tools Viewer" window.
  • If the message says, "Everything seems OK," quit 4D tools and proceed with the upgrade.
  • If the messages indicates any damage, contact Winx™ Pro support.

  • Installation

    Macintosh
    4D server
  • Quit all running programs.
  • From the desktop drag the "4D server 6.5.6 alias" to the trash.
  • Double-click on the Macintosh Hard Drive.
  • Double-click on the "ACI" folder.
  • Double-click on the "Programs" folder.
  • Double-click on the "4D server 6.5.6" folder.
  • Insert the CD.
  • If auto-run does not open the CD, double-click on the CD.
  • Double-click on the "Extras" folder.
  • Double-click on the "4D" folder.
  • Double-click on the "4D 6.5.8 customized" folder.
  • Drag the "4D Server 6.5.8" application from it's current location to the "4D server 6.5.6" folder.

  • Note: If the "4D server 6.5.6" window can not be seen, it may be necessary to drag the window to a new location.

  • Single-click on the 4D Server 6.5.8 application.
  • Use the command key (apple) plus the letter "m" to make an alias.
  • Drag the alias to the desktop.
  • Move "4D server 6.5.6" to the trash, but DO NOT EMPTY the trash.
  • Close the 4D server 6.5.6 folder.
  • Single-click on the words "4D server 6.5.6" of the folder. Rename the "4D server 6.5.6" folder to "4D server 6.5.8".

  • Note: When the installation appears successful, and you are certain that 4D server 6.5.8 is running successfully, then you may empty the trash.

    4D client
  • Quit all running programs.
  • From the desktop drag the "4D client 6.5.6 alias" to the trash.
  • Double-click on the Macintosh Hard Drive.
  • Double-click on the "ACI" folder.
  • Double-click on the "Programs" folder.
  • Double-click on the "4D client 6.5.6" folder.
  • Insert the CD.
  • If auto-run does not open the CD, double-click on the CD.
  • Double-click on the "Extras" folder.
  • Double-click on the "4D" folder.
  • Double-click on the "4D 6.5.8 customized" folder.
  • Drag the "4D Client 6.5.8" application from it's current location to the "4D client 6.5.6" folder.

  • Note: If the "4D client 6.5.6" window can not be seen, it may be necessary to drag the window to a new location.

  • Move "4D client 6.5.6" to the trash, but DO NOT EMPTY the trash.

  • Note: When the installation appears successful, and you are certain that 4D client 6.5.8 is running successfully, then you may empty the trash.

  • Single-click on the 4D Client 6.5.8 application.

  • Note: All custom labels and quick reports remain in the locations where they were previously saved. To insure that these are not lost, move them to the "Reports" folder which is located inside the newly installed "4D Client 6.5.8" folder.

    Winx™ Pro 2.0 Update

    Introduction
    These instructions give you a general overview of installing an update to Winx™ Pro. Please READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS before attempting the update. Be sure you understand the instructions and set aside uninterrupted time to update your system. A data update process begins the first time you start the new version of Winx™ Pro. This update will take at least 1 hour.

    Version 2.0 of Winx™ Pro requires a FREE upgrade to 4D 6.5.8. Follow the instructions in the 4D upgrade document before updating Winx™ Pro.

    Changes made in 2.0 are outlined in the release notes document.

    Backup
    It is imperative that you back up both your Winx™ Pro data and your Winx™ Pro application prior to installation. The Winx™ Pro application will be replace during installation.

    Data check
    It is recommended that you check your current data before the upgrade to version 2.0. To check your data, run 4D tools.

    Note: Refer to the section "4D tools" for instructions to verify the data.

    About the installer
    The installation process begins automatically when you insert the Winx™ Pro installation CD if the "auto run" feature of your computer is turned on. Simply double-click the icon of your CD drive if the installation does not begin automatically.

    Installation
    Macintosh
  • Quit all running programs.
  • Double-click on the file "Installer" if the installation did not begin automatically.
  • Select "Continue" from the splash screen.
  • Take the time to read the license agreement.
  • Select "Continue" if you agree with the license agreement window.
  • Select "Install" from the Installer window.

  • Note: The "Macintosh Hard Drive" is the recommended Install Location. Altering this location may yield unexpected results.

  • Read the message about restarting your computer.
  • Select "Continue" to quit any running applications.
  • Select "Restart" when the installation is complete. This completes the installation of Winx™ Pro.

  • Note: If auto-run is turned on, the installation process will begin at startup. Select "Continue," "Continue," and then "Quit."

    Update Winx™ Pro

  • Open the Winx™ Pro folder on your hard drive.
  • Windows users: C:\Program Files\Babcock\Winx™ Pro
    Macintosh users: Macintosh Hard Drive\Winx™ Pro
  • Double-click on the Winx™ Pro application
  • Windows users: "Winx™ Pro.exe"
    Macintosh users: "Winx™ Pro"
  • Enter the "Admin" user name and password. Select "Connection." This will update your Winx™ Pro data

  • Note: Winx™ Pro will update your data file. This process will take approximately 1 hour. The last dialog in the process is "Balance X Person Accounts."

    Export All Reports
    WARNING: Do not attempt any changes to reports without support. Any changes made to the reports are the sole responsibility of the user.
  • Select "Report" from the Navigation palette.
  • Select "Administration..." from the "File" menu
  • Select "Reports Export To Folder..."
  • Select "OK."
  • Select "Many" from the "Export as single file?" dialog.
  • Navigate to the "Reports" folder inside the Winx™ Pro folder.

  • Select the "Select" button.
  • This will create a folder containing current reports.

  • Delete outdated Reports
    WARNING: Do not delete the HCFA or the Superbill reports. All other old reports will need to be deleted. Do not attempt any changes to reports without support. Deleting a report permanently removes it from the database. Any changes made to the reports are the sole responsibility of the user.

  • Select "Report" from the Navigation palette if the Reports table is not open
  • Single-click on the report to be deleted.

  • Note: Use Shift + click to select more than one report to delete.
  • Select the "Trash can" icon.

  • Read the dialog.
  • Select "Yes" if you wish to delete this report.

  • Import new Reports
    WARNING: Do not attempt any changes to reports without support. Any changes made to the reports are the sole responsibility of the user.

  • Select "Report" from the Navigation palette if the Reports table is not open.
  • Select "Administration..." from the "File" menu.
  • Select "Reports Import From Folder..."
  • Navigate to the Reports folder in the Winx™ Pro folder.

  • Note: Reports to be imported are contained in a folder. The title of the folder is similar to "Reports 01-07-12." Use the folder with the most current date.

  • Single-click on the Reports folder
  • Select "Select."

  • Update shortcuts
    Remove any old shortcuts or aliases from your desktop to the Recycle Bin or Trash. Create new Winx™ Pro shortcuts or aliases and place them on your desktop.

    Start Winx™ Pro
    Note:for the initial startup in Winx™ Pro 2.0, start in Single user (rhino icon). For all subsequent startups, use the following:

    Single-user: Double-click on the newly created Winx™ Pro shortcut or alias.
    Multi-user: Drag Winx™ Pro server shortcut on to 4D server shortcut.
